Womb Settee

A Womb Chair fit for two. Designed in 1948, the Womb Settee was brought back into production in 2015. The double-wide design offers a comforting oasis of calm for the home or office.The Womb Settee was developed in anticipation of Eero Saarinen’s architectural commission for the General Motors Technical Center in Warren, Michigan—a 25-building complex requiring furniture for 5,000 stressed employees. Saarinen responded with a slim, sculptural, inviting settee, completely unlike the clumsy, oversized models popular at the time. “These dreadnaughts have disappeared from modern interiors partly because they were designed for an era that tried to impress by sheer mass,” wrote Saarinen. “Now, more than ever, we need to relax.”
