Interested in collapsing the contradictions between form and formlessness, Daniele Albright's work focuses on the immaterial as the indeterminate and shifting space between perception and the material world. In her limited edition Smoke & Mirrors series, the seemingly formless material of smoke is manipulated using the slightest shifts in atmospheric pressure, air movements significantly lighter than a single breath. The resulting ephemeral forms are captured photographically.About Daniele Albright (artist):Daniele Albright is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores phenomena at the edge of visibility. Interested in collapsing the contradictions between form and formlessness, her work often focuses on the immaterial as the indeterminate and shifting space between perception and the material world. In academia her graduate research focused on the 1985 Paris exhibition Les Immateriaux, curated by Jean Francois Lyotard, which was an experimental and groundbreaking exhibition documenting the rise of the immaterial as a defining factor of contemporary life. The themes and implications of that exhibition, which explored technology's role in creating new understandings of spatial configuration and inhabitation, continue to be a guiding influence on her work. Daniele Albright’s process bridges visual research directly as subject matter and indirectly through a concern for the relationship between perception and cognition in the process of viewing.
