Pietro Bianchi (Rome 1694 - 1740) attributedSaint John the Baptist in the DesertOil on canvas98 x 75 cmThe information on Bianchi's life comes to us thanks to two eighteenth-century biographies written by Dezallier d'Argenville and Carlo Giuseppe Ratti. Originally from Sarzana in Liguria, he moved to Rome at a young age. Here he began his apprenticeship under Giacomo Triga, who shortly after went to Venice, which is why the young Pietro moved to the atelier of Giovanni Battista Gaulli. In 1709, upon Gaulli's death, he spent a short period with Giuseppe Ghezzi and finally settled with Benedetto Luti, becoming his favorite pupil. In 1725, he received his first important commissions as an independent painter. His works are still preserved in many Roman churches and at the Galleria Colonna.Pietro Bianchi (Rome 1694 - 1740) attributedSaint John the Baptist in the DesertOil on canvas98 x 75 cm
