Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, Lakeview, Montana

Trumpeter swans (Cygnus buccinator), North America's largest waterfowl, lift of f from a pond in Montana's Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, a sanctuary established in 1935. Near extinction in Yellowstone country in the early 1930 's, trumpeters have gradually increased in number; some 90 pairs nest in Greater Ye llowstone each spring.
