From 1980 to 2004, groundbreaking British youth culture and style magazine The Face played a vital role in shaping pop culture with its striking, image-driven design, bold, inclusive content, innovative photography and unflinching attitude. Published to accompany the eponymous exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery in London, The Face Magazine: Culture Shift celebrates the ongoing legacy of this trailblazing publication with a look back on some of the most iconic portraits, covers and spreads from its first twenty-five years. You’ll find page after page of striking, experimental shots from the likes of Miles Aldridge, Elaine Constantine, Corinne Day, David LaChapelle and Juergen Teller, which often feature famous figures from the time — think Kate Moss, Kurt Cobain, Snoop Dogg, David Bowie, Kylie Minogue, Grace Jones, Bjork, The Clash and Madonna, just to name a few. Interspersed throughout these images are essays and interviews from key contributors to the original magazine, which explore The Face’s role in the evolution of fashion photography, its part in launching the careers of so many creative icons and its lasting impact on culture. Also included is a toast to the mag’s 2019 relaunch and the ways it’s staying true to its original vision while embracing a new generation.  A fascinating look at what happens when creatives are given the freedom to be truly innovative, The Face Magazine: Culture Shift is a must-have for fans of photography and pop culture alike.  •curated by Sabina Jaskot-Gill, Lee Swillingham and Norbert Schoerner•various photographers •paperback•288 pages Dimensions:•10"W x 1"D x 12.5"H
