The Magnificent Seven (1960)

Western remake of Akira Kurosawa''s classic The Seven Samurai. Mexican villagers hire gunmen to protect them from the bandits who are destroying their town. Most of the actors were relative unknowns, though not for long. Sequelled by Return of the Seven in 1966, Guns of the Magnificent Seven in 1969, and The Magnificent Seven Ride in 1972. Excellent score. Uncredited writing by Walter Newman and Walter Bernstein.
