A post-graffitiproject by SunkOne, aiming to eternize graffiti-writing by trespassing intoa new artistic medium.Glazed Graffiti was born out of the desire to write graffiti that lasts forever.To make this shift from ephemeral to eternal, graffiti writer SunkOne hadto cross the boundaries of traditional street graffiti. By changing the con-text of street tagging he wants to further explore the aesthetics of whatis often labeled as vandalism. To him, the tactility, opacity and shine ofceramic glaze mirrored the mesmerizing appearance of wet paint and ink,so he set out to engineer a spray can that would enable him to paint withceramic glaze without losing what he loves most about graffiti: the rawenergy and the rudimentary lines. With these air pressurized spray canshe is free to move around ceramic objects and surfaces and capture thepowerful visual language of graffiti writing in imperishable works of art.About SunkOneSunkOne (Yuri van Poppel, 1975) is a Dutch designer, contemporary artistand graffiti writer. Since drawing was his way to express himself as a child,he was instantly hooked when graffiti came from New York to Europe inthe mid-eighties. Seeing his name up written in stylized letters was anextremely powerful feeling to him at that age -and it still is. After studyingart history and design in the UK and The Netherlands, he worked in designand advertising winning multiple awards for his creative work.Simultaneously he participated in various national and internationalprojects and exhibitions with his graffiti work. With Glazed Graffiti,he is the first ever to spray ceramic glazes using custom built spray cans,capturing the raw energy of street writing in a new artistic medium.
