The Jens Risom Outdoor Stool from Knoll is a balance of form and function, designed in 1943 to fill a furniture shortage during wartime. Jens Risom created the piece under wartime material constraints. Risom believed that solution-based design was good design. He imagined this piece's back and seat rest originally out of parachute webbing. Today's technology substitute this material for a sunbrella fabric that's resistant to UV, fading, and stains. The sunbrella is hand-wrapped in a perpendicular weave for airy, soft support. This material contrasts beautifully with the warm hues of the teak wood structure. The teak features precise angles for a balanced, restful seat.
