Restored authentic “Papa Bear” chair designed by Danish design master Hans J. Wegner for the furniture maker A.P. Stolen in the 1950s. This Model AP19 chair with accompanying AP29 ottoman is renowned for its beautiful silhouette and incredible comfort that has become an icon of 20th century Danish design. Our highly specialized and experienced upholstery team has meticulously restored this furniture in line and true to form with the original upholstering of the manufacturer. This “Papa Bear” chair is an investment for life. It remains the most exclusive, and one of the most popular Wegner designs to this day. The solid wooden frame is expertly hand-joined and shaped to form a strong base for the comprehensive traditional upholstery work. With the exception of the seat cushion, no foam is used in the upholstery; the back and armrests are stuffed with cotton, palm and flax fiber, and horse hair. The addition of springs creates a durable and immensely comfortable chair which embraces the sitter in a warm hug. Exposed teak "paws" on the armrests and tapered legs lend a gentle warmth to the design aesthetic. Condition: Fully restored from top to bottom, this chair and ottoman is in excellent condition and presents as a true investment piece of furniture. Upholstered in Kvadrat Tonica 832, a soft denim blue Danish wool fabric. Our highly specialized and experienced upholstery team has meticulously restored this furniture in line and true to form with the original upholstering of the manufacturer, having entirely hand-stitched and tacked the chair covering and seat cushion. The teak accents have been refreshed and oiled, while still showing lovely patina, lending to the chair's vintage. Truly a masterpiece of design and craftsmanship of the highest order.
