A distinguished matched pair of French Louis XVI-style bergère armchairs by Hibriten Chair Co., Inc. of Lenoir, North Carolina — a respected American furniture manufacturer known for quality craftsmanship. Original maker’s tag present on original upholstery in near perfect condition. These elegant chairs showcase the finest neoclassical details: cream and gilt-painted carved wood frames with fluted tapered legs, carved rosette corner blocks, gilt-accented spindle posts, cane side panels, and a decorative foliate crest at the top rail. The tufted backs and generous seat cushions are upholstered in a beautiful ivory brocade with a gold, sage, and rose floral chintz pattern — stunning as-is or a prime candidate for a designer reupholster. The paint finish shows an authentically aged patina with natural crazing consistent with their vintage, lending genuine old-world character. Some minor chipping to the frame paint and one back support previously was cracked and repaired.
