1980s Rud Thygesen and Johnny Sorensen Set of Two King Series Cherry ArmchairsThe chairs, were designed for Fredericia Furniture A/S in 1981 as part of the Classic Kings Furniture series, which has been designed since 1969 where the fist models of what later became a sucessfull series of chairs and tables were given as a present to the Danish King Frederik IX when he celebrated his 70'th birthday in 1969. The Kings Furniture series has since become a true Classic in Danish design.The well crafted chairs made in cherry wood with visible joints, leathered seats and woven back rest with a graceful curve has been checked by our experienced cabinetmakers to ensure that they are in very good condition with only few and minor signs of age and use.  Johnny Sørensen was born in Helsingør, son of factory workeres and appointed as unskilled helper at the local shipbuilders, from where he advanced to the carpenter shops, where he met Jørn Utzon, son of world famous Danish architect Jørn Utzon, the man behind the Sydney Opera House. He ended his appreticeship in 1963 producing a writing table in rio rosewood. Admitted to the Art School in Copenhagen he met his future partner Rud Thygesen, with whom he opened a business in 1966.Rud Thygesen and Johnny Sørensen sequently evolved as renowned furniture designers, showered by prestigious awards like the Carpenter Guilds furniture competition's first prize, the Jubilee prize from the National Bank of Denmark and many others.Their works are shown at the Danish Design Museum ion Copenhagen, The Design Museum in Oslo, Victoria and Albert Museum in London and in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
