Bamboo Armchair - 19th Century This armchair is called a “Rose Chair” in Chinese. Rose chairs were made for decoration, and were usually placed under a window. The back of this pair is decorated with simple geometric work. The arms are strengthened by supporting stiles which divert the weight to the seat. On all four sides of the legs, there are stretchers. Below the seat, on each side, an extra stretcher is used to strengthen the construction. Wood: Bamboo Origin: Anhui Period: 19th C
