Antique Dutch Marquetry Mahogany Open Armchair With Bird & Floral Inlay, Late 19th Century

Chairish

$1,695

An elegant late 19th-century Dutch marquetry open armchair, beautifully crafted in richly figured mahogany with finely executed satinwood and fruitwood inlay. The chair features an exquisitely shaped crest rail and splat depicting a perched bird among flowering branches above a classical urn, with matching floral marquetry extending across the arms, seat rail, and cabriole legs. The graceful open-arm silhouette, Queen Anne-inspired legs, and extensive hand-cut marquetry reflect the exceptional craftsmanship of Continental cabinetmakers working in the Dutch tradition during the late Victorian period. The upholstered seat is covered in a neutral cream damask fabric that complements the warm patina of the wood and is ready for use. The chair is sturdy and displays the character expected of an antique over 100 years old, including minor wear, small veneer losses, and old professional repairs consistent with age and use. These do not detract from its beauty or functionality. A striking accent chair for a traditional, European, English Country House, or eclectic interior, and equally appealing as a desk chair, hall chair, or decorative occasional chair.
