Antique French Directoire Style Fauteuil Open Arm Chair In Sapelle Mahogany C. Late 19th Century

Chairish

$855

This elegant antique French fauteuil reflects the restrained sophistication of the Directoire period, with clean architectural lines balanced by delicate carved details and graceful proportions. Crafted in the late 19th century in the Directoire taste, the chair has especially beautiful form, with a refined silhouette that feels equally at home in a formal sitting room, library, or bedroom. The combination of the warm mahogany frame and pale upholstery gives the piece a light, sophisticated look that decorators are always drawn to. The chair is crafted from richly figured sapelle mahogany, showing beautiful ribbon grain and warm color throughout the frame. The open arms terminate in scroll handholds, while the front supports are accented with carved classical motifs inspired by neoclassical French design. The gently curved crest rail and shaped seat frame soften the more architectural lines, creating a chair that is both elegant and inviting. The proportions are particularly pleasing, giving the piece a graceful presence from every angle. The chair is in nice antique condition, with wear consistent with age and normal use. The frame remains sturdy and presents very well, with expected surface wear and minor imperfections to the finish. While the upholstery remains serviceable, it does show staining and wear to the seat area and would be a very good candidate for fresh upholstery, though it can certainly continue to be used and enjoyed as is. 38h x 23w x 22d seat height 18
