Voltaire armchair Louis Philippe rack, velor jaune.Un Voltaire is a big comfortable chair (overstuffed) with a high sloping back. The armrests are wide and padded, facilitating position. In the late nineteenth century, it was mainly used for the sick and the elderly. It is not known the origin of the name: it would presumably a performance of Voltaire 1820s, in which the writer philosopher appears languid in a high chair with back in medallion apparent natural wood. The armchair "Voltaire" is characteristic of the "Louis Philippe style", so that the chairs of this form will remain impregnated fashion of that time throughout the nineteenth century.
