A rare example of a classic William Birch of High Wycombe mahogany armchair designed by their top man EG Punnett and made specially for Liberty & Co ca 1900. This chair as can be seen in the pics has been heavily used which only adds character. The back rest has been reupholstered in patinated salvaged leather from a 1950s gymnasium vaulting box bench. Where there is now the round leather insert there used to be a marquetry inlay, presumably the same as in the two side side of the chair ( as can be seen in the pics ). The chair at some point has been refinished and now has a lovely understated gloss. The chair has been restored and is now completely stable, the two nails who are a later addition of an honest early repair we have left in the chair.
