Marcel breuer was a german-hungarian architect and designer. He was one of the central figures in modern architecture and design in the 20th century. His impressive oeuvre includes the unesco headquarters in paris and the whitney museum of american art in new york. until he immigrated to the usa due to his jewish heritage, he was active at the bauhaus in weimar. Here he created icons such as the b3 club chair (wassily) and the cesca chair. In the usa, he founded the architecture faculty at harvard university together with walter gropius. Breuer died in new york in 1981. marcel breuer created this iconic armchair in 1928. A special stylistic element of this bauhaus classic is the s-curve in the upper part of the chair. Constructed according to the principle of "arc-swing-counter-swing," in which all the curves of the tubular steel find their counterpart.
