This pair of vintage Bauhaus Mies van der Rohe MR 20 black leather cantilever arm chairs were made by Knoll in 1979. The MR chair was designed by modernist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1927 as part of his contribution to the Weissenhof exhibit in Stuttgart, Germany and was awarded the Museum of Modern Art Award in 1977 and the Design Center Stuttgart Award in 1978. These iconic Bauhaus chairs feature clean lines, a simple profile and a lack of ornamentation that epitomizes the International Style. The chair’s cantilevered design used chrome-plated tubular steel – an innovative technology at the time – paired with premium leather for the perfect balance of contrasting materials and an intuitively accessible and ergonomic seat. These versatile, timeless and collectible chairs pair well with a wide range of decor; perfect for home or office. Knoll International Fifth Avenue tags stamped May 1, 1979 and delivery labels on seat underside. CONDITION Excellent vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use.
