A Renaissance/Louis XIII style ceremonial armchair, dating from the early 19th century, entirely carved in solid dark-stained wood. The openwork back features a Christian cross above a decoration of scallop shells, scrolls, and acanthus leaves carved in high relief. The front legs are shaped like lion's paws with claws. The monumental armrests, also in the form of scrolls and adorned with carved foliage, rest on a seat rail decorated with a shell cartouche. The liturgical purpose of this chair is confirmed by the presence of the cross and the scallop shell, symbols characteristic of ecclesiastical furnishings. The seat and armrests are upholstered in red and gray cut velvet with Baroque floral motifs, secured by a row of gilt nails. Restored by the seller's workshops, the piece is in excellent condition.
