Black Sculptural Three-Legged Armchair In Resin-Covered Foam By Michal Cihlar

The three legged armchair is an experiment in construction and finish, its form inspired by a 13th-century Mycenaean terracotta sculpture — “Female Figure In Three Legged Chair” — as well as the essence of the foam material itself. Cihlar, a young Brooklyn-based designer, experimented with layering resin over foam to create a hard functional outer shell. This chair explores the idea of transforming a manipulatable material into a state of permanence. Due to the handmade nature of this piece, each chair is slightly unique and will have a rippling texture in the surface due to the method with which the resin coat is applied.
