A unique, French Louis XVI-Style bergère armchair from the 18th century, capturing the artistic sophistication of the period. The dark wood frame along the wingback is hand-carved in a multitude of designs: a bouquet-like finial at each top corner transitions into trefoil leaves and similar foliate designs ending in scrolls at each projection of the arm. Gold gilt is evident in subtle flashes against the dark wood that creates a dramatic outline against the upholstery. Currently upholstered in crisp white cotton that shows evidence of prior staining.
