Hungarian Armchair By Julia Gaubek, 1950

Chairish

$2,578

This chair is in good condition with a fresh fabric, fully reupholstered. Iconic shape by a Hungarian well accomplished designer. Her unique objects and small series furniture, which were mostly made in the workshops of the Industrial Arts Company, were sold in the Company's stores. In the showroom called Lakáskultúra, which was also a shop, she also held interior design consultations on a weekly basis. Her works rely on the carpentry craftsmanship that still existed at the time. Towards the 1950s, she developed the specific style of her small furniture, with an emphasis on plasticity, maintaining versatility and variability. That's how her winning furniture was able to get to the World Exhibition in Brussels. It was born as a result of a process in the early 60s about "furry" design (Budapest, Museum of Applied Arts), which was successfully produced for a decade and a half, and appeared in many films as a characteristic object of the era. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
