Set of 2 Poltrone Gemelle armchairs by Yukiko NagaiDimensions: D57 x W80 x H60 cmMaterial: (Chestnut wood), Marble(Biancone etc..), Natural stone, Venetiancolor glass, Styrofoam, Glass fiber, Resin, Cement, StuccoWeight: 15 kg Ancient twin armchairs, with seats made out of mosaic.A fantasia of ancient fabric, reproducing small pattern-like bouquet.Small marble tiles shape the "stone fabric”, creating a smooth flow to the point of making the surface to look like a fabric. To the eyes, it looks like a soft pillow, but once touched or sit on it, it turns out as a mosaic. All pieces are handmade, so the colours and shapes of the patterns may vary. The chair used in this piece is a one-off antique. The price of the artwork may vary depending on the price of the chair.Born in Niigata (Japan) in 1981, she graduated in Environment Design at the Tama Art University. She moved to Italy, to study the mosaic at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna. The concept behind her body of work, is to reproduce with mosaic the textures of different kinds of material.Through the use of mosaic, she re-enacts the appearance and volume of wood or fabric, briefly deceiving the viewer's eye which, once touched the work, realizes it’s not what it seemed to be. This creates a particular kind of “imbalance” between what the viewers feel and what they see, creating surprise and amusement — the latter being a very important element, that must be present in the work.
