Ss 33 Cantilever Armchairs By Hans & Wassili Luckhardt For Hynek Gottwald, 1930s, Set Of 2

Chairish

$3,186

A rare variant of the iconic SS 33 cantilever armchairs, originally designed in 1935 by German modernist architects Hans and Wassili Luckhardt for the Berlin-based company Desta. These particular examples were produced in the former Czechoslovakia by Hynek Gottwald in the late 1930s, under catalogue number Ek 10—making them highly sought-after pieces for serious collectors of early modernist design. The chairs feature the distinctive cantilevered tubular steel frame, combined with elegantly curved wooden armrests and ergonomically shaped seats and backrests. These elements reflect the Luckhardt brothers’ vision of combining industrial innovation with sculptural form—hallmarks of interwar modernism. Both chairs have undergone careful refurbishment: the steel has been expertly polished, and the wooden elements restored to preserve their original character while enhancing their visual impact. The result is a striking and usable piece of design history, blending Bauhaus functionality with timeless elegance. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs, designer records, or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
