Peacock chairs originated in the Philippines in the early 1900’s, constructed by prisoners at Bilibid Prison. They gained more widespread popularity in the 60’s and 70’s after featuring prominently in movies, tv shows, and celebrity portraits. Their lightweight construction adds a natural feel to any space, while their sturdiness has made them desirable for decades. This chair is in the more rare porter style with a high, thin, hooded back. It comes with a cushion, and the wicker has been painted a light brown.
