A wonderful example of Alpine folk-painted furniture, this single-door pine armoire retains its original surface and hand-painted decoration throughout. The door centers on an arched cartouche framing a flowering plant rising from an urn, flanked by the painted date 1816. Stylized tulips, roses, and trailing vines fill the stiles, side panels and molded cornice. The interior has been modernized with blue upholstery and a clever modular shelving system that allows for variable shelf height. There are also several hooks at the top that could accommodate a hanging wardrobe if desired. The lock and key are in working condition.
