A Chapeau de Gendarme cornice tops the body of the armoire, rounding out the impressive scale. Two solid walnut doors have shapely panels creating a gorgeous façade playing on depth and proportion. The carvings on the exterior include a fleur de lis, star, and shell motifs typical of rococo decoration. The doors are hung on large steel barrel hinges with long pierced steel escutcheon plates and open to a massive storage space with four fixed shelves measuring 17” deep. The sinuous lines of the scalloped apron continue to the antique’s carved escargot feet in classic Louis XV-style. A single key is present.
