Heywood-Wakefield furniture has it origins in 1826 with the establishment of Heywood Brothers and the 1855 founding of Wakefield Company.  These two companies competed in the wicker and rattan market until their merger in 1897 in Gardner, Massachusetts. Between the merger and 1921 the company was known as the Heywood Brothers and Wakefield Company, until reorganization in 1921 as Heywood-Wakefield. This rattan tea cart dates from the 1897-1921 period.  The label is paper which suggests that the piece dates from the earlier part of that timeframe.  The cart and its two removable glass trays are in very good if not excellent condition given its age, showing only slight signs of wearing.  The wheels are sturdy, and the cart rolls quite well. The cart is 17 inches wide, and the serving area is 24 inches long.  The height of the cart (base to the top tray) is 27.5 inches.  The reach of the handle is about 10 inches. This is a piece to be enjoyed and treasured!
