A sculptural Mid Century bedroom set consisting of four pieces, a low, six drawer dresser, a five drawer chest and two nightstands. The nightstands mirror each other except one has a lock. We do not have the key. Hidden on the underside of one of the drawers of the tall chest is the mark (shown in the last photograph) which confirms the piece (and set) is made in January of 1966, in Japan. One of the Mid Century specialists I worked with at a Lambertville, NJ auction house told me there is very little English language information for Japanese Mid Century Modernism. Perhaps this and the obscure location of the mark is why these designs are often mistakenly attributed to the likes of American Makers and Designers like Albert Parvin, Vladimir Kagan and United Furniture Corp. All four pieces are stunning and have been professionally restored. The wood grain has more depth and clarity than the original factory finish. The brass hardware retains the original patina. The dimensions given are for the low dresser. The chest is H 46.5" W 40" D 19". The nightstands are H25.75" W 22" D 16".
