Dimensions: 39 ⅞” H x 72 ¼” W x 26 ¼” D A circa 1780 English oak "settle bench" (hall bench) of stately carved details. With a finely paneled back of grand proportions–long enough to comfortably seat three or four people–this lovely bench is framed by gracefully curved arms as an inviting and comfortable feature. The removable bench cushion is upholstered in soft green and ivory foliate pattern resting on railroaded wood stretchers for support. The seat filling is densely packed with natural fibers of uncertain equine (horse hair) or vegetal origin. Note that the fabric is in poor condition with stains and discoloration. Elevating the whole are three turned and tapering pad-footed front legs, quite thick, and three squared back legs to sit flush against a wall. The wood frame has been cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to reveal all the historic character. Please view the detailed images. Seat height: 19 ¾”
