Krobo Bench By Torbjørn Afdal For Mellemstrands Trevareindustri, Norway, 1960s

Chairish

$4,577

Iconic “Krobo” bench designed by Torbjørn Afdal, executed in richly grained rosewood. The design is architectural and refined, defined by its long, floating top with raised edges and distinctive rectangular leg frames. The construction is both sculptural and practical, with subtle detailing that reveals Afdal’s mastery of proportion and joinery. The rosewood displays deep tonal variation and vivid grain patterns, enhancing the horizontal elegance of the piece. The raised lip along the top adds both a visual frame and functional containment, while the open leg construction gives the bench a light, airy presence despite its solid materiality. Originally conceived as a versatile storage and seating solution, the “Krobo” remains highly adaptable — suitable as a bench, low console, or statement piece along a wall. Condition: Very good vintage condition with minor age-related wear consistent with use. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
