Mitchell fine furniture of Temple, Maine. Each piece is handcrafted and have been featured in Yankee Workshop, L.L. Bean, Orvis and other fine furniture calalogs. The W.A. Mitchell name implies the highest standard of quality created originally by Maine's own Arthur H. Mitchell using old-world joinery in the construction of the pieces. W.A. Mitchell design draws inspiration from Widndsor tradition and classic American Shaker. The chairs and benches are built so that the seat supports the back and arms of the chair through spindles that are firmly planted into the seat and locked top and bottom with hardwood pine. The use of mortise and tenon joints locks each chair leg, arm stump and spindle. This construction design transfers lateral and downward pressure from the back and arms of the chair into the seat, where it is absored and destributed to give the chair remarkable strenght and stability.
