Panchina Bianca Antique bench by Yukiko Nagai.Dimensions: D55 x W157 x H90 cm.Material: Iron , Marble, Natural stone, Cement, StuccoWeight: 80 kg. A vintage white bench, made out of iron and wood, has been used as the subject for a new mosaic bench. The wood grain is recreated exclusively through marble and stone. The mosaic follows the dynamic of the wood texture, while the white painted aged wood is accurately recreated by the diverse tones of marble and stone, giving the impression of a never deteriorating wood. All pieces are handmade, so the colours and shapes of the patterns may vary. The chair used in this piece is a one-off antique. The price of the artwork may vary depending on the price of the chair.Bench lengths can be altered.Born in Niigata (Japan) in 1981, she graduated in Environment Design at the Tama Art University. She moved to Italy, to study the mosaic at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna. The concept behind her body of work, is to reproduce with mosaic the textures of different kinds of material.Through the use of mosaic, she re-enacts the appearance and volume of wood or fabric, briefly deceiving the viewer's eye which, once touched the work, realizes it’s not what it seemed to be. This creates a particular kind of “imbalance” between what the viewers feel and what they see, creating surprise and amusement — the latter being a very important element, that must be present in the work.
