The beam is milled and finished to sit on a modern steel base. A luscious mahogany stain accentuates the grain, while a low sheen urethane finish protects it. The beam bench brings primitive beauty. The wood will continue to move and the finish to patina over time. Cracks, knots and variation is part of the beauty of these pieces. The urethane finish is appropriate indoors or outdoors, but any wood exposed to the elements will show wear and age. Use it as an entertainment console under the tv in the den or use it as a bench on the porch.Covered outdoor patio or deck is preferable to complete exposure to the elements. Regular maintenance, frequency depending on the weather, will extend the life of this product. Steel is coated and polished with a black patina and wax, but it will rust if outside. Wood may move to expose bare pine underneath.
