This bench is crafted from a solid slab of walnut with a live, freeform edge running along both long sides. The top rests on two shaped trestle legs, each carved with a soft, organic silhouette and pierced with a cut-out at the base, joined by a single floating stretcher in a darker contrasting wood. Construction is entirely solid timber, with visible natural checking and knots left exposed as part of the material's character. The grain runs in warm honey tones across the top, with the stretcher showing a deeper, richer colour by comparison. The legs are hand-shaped rather than turned, giving the piece a sculptural, one-off quality more akin to studio furniture than factory production. The piece is best dated broadly to the later twentieth century. A striking example of freeform studio woodworking, equally suited as a bench or low occasional table.
