This is a fantastic quality satinwood cylinder bookcase by the London makers 'Edwards & Roberts' circa 1880. The bookcase has a stepped moulded cornice with dentil moulding and ebony inlay. The two astragal glazed doors with the bars, also inlaid with ebony, opening to reveal three adjustable shelves. The bottom section has a tamber front opening to reveal a lovely fitted interior with various drawers, fitted compartments and a small cupboard in the center which includes a pull out drawer with original inkwells. The drawer fronts and panel door made out of hardwood, with a pull-out pen tray with a green leather writing surface decorated with gold tooling. There is one long over two short mahogany lined drawers below featuring original brass hardware also inlaid with ebony. The piece stands on four turned and fluted legs.
