The Advent 1 series bookcase was originally designed for Ford Motor Company before going into production for several years in the early 1970’s. It is solidly constructed in oak with a walnut plinth base. It features three adjustable oak shelves and a finished back and can be positioned against a wall or floating in a room. Harvey Probber (1922-2003) was one of only a handful of American mid-century designers who managed to found their own production company. An accomplished theatrical singer, artist, and renderer, he established a factory in Brooklyn in 1946, moving production to Fall River, MA in 1954–the same year he opened a showroom in Manhattan’s Fuller Building, amid such art-world legends as the Leo Castelli Gallery. With a range of products that rivaled Edward Wormley’s output for Dunbar Furniture, Probber won recognition for his meticulously proportioned, well-crafted modular pieces, including sofas, coffee tables, case pieces, and office systems. Note: There are five bookcases available, priced individually.Provenance: The collection of Jory Probber
