A pair of Art Deco period bronze bookends depicting a scene from ‘The Angelus’, an oil painting by French painter Jean François Millet, completed between 1857 and 1859. The scene depicts two peasants bowing in a field over a basket of potatoes to say a prayer, The Angelus, recited to honor the angel Gabriel's annunciation to Mary, marks the end of the workday. The couple's tools are scattered around them, and a church spire is visible in the distance. Circa 1930. Millet was commissioned by the A
