1930s Folk Art Buffet

Chairish

$3,699

Such a beautiful and unusual buffet. Made from a myriad of woods, this piece was certainly made by a true craftsman. It originated in the Chicagoland area and had been found in the corner of a dusty, old furniture shop. The flat cabinet top, where the mirror portion of the cabinet attaches, has lovely inlay. It is mellowed with time and in terrific condition. The mirror top can be removed from the cabinet for easy moving. I had the mirror replaced as the movers I had broke the original mirror to it. The sides of the cabinet tell quite a story and I wish I knew more. One side has a large star inlay and below the star is a primitive cabin. The other side has what appears to me to be a row house. So maybe the person moved from the countryside into the city. Only a guess. Additionally, the cabinet appears to have been made quite sturdy and the drawers do not have dovetailing. This portion appears to be more vintage than antique. The drawers (see photos) have a piece of wood laying on the bottom of the drawer and the sides are flat nailed. So age is questionable when the workmanship is not. There is one piece of wood missing, a small corner piece under the top overhang.
