An exceptional Regency serving table of grand scale crafted of solid mahogany with cross-banded mahogany veneers and accented in ebonized detail. Four tapered octagonal legs, each corner dramatically outlined in ebonized striping, resting upon ebonized ball feet and terminating in boldly carved ebonized acanthus capitals support a substantial stepped frieze of ovolo form below a mahogany breakfront top projecting at center. Below, two full-length shelves with routed edge, concave at center, of single-board mahogany span the width. Above, a highly unusual brass gallery in the Chinese Chippendale taste accentuates the tripartite form and features a Greek Key pattern amidst diagonal lattice, punctuated by ball finials. An elegant and understated piece originally intended for a dining room but well suited for many different spaces. Surface height: 37.5
