Mid 20th Century Beautiful Mahogany Philadelphia Chippendale Style Dish Top Birdcage Tilt Table

Chairish

$676

Beautiful copy of an 18th century Philadelphia Chippendale mahogany tilt table with a dish top and a birdcage mechanism. The original of this table was made between 1765 and 1780. Exquisite carving of the post and legs as well as the ball and claw feet. Beautifully shaped top with conforming applied dish top. The birdcage tilt mechanism allows the top to spin on the post whether the top is flipped up or down. This actually served a purpose in the 18th century. If 2 or 3 people were sitting at the table having tea, the table could be turned allowing people access to treats etc without actually having to pass them across the table. The top is 33 1/4" diameter and the table stands 28" tall with the top down. Table was made by The Company of Permo-weld Master Craftsmen, a subsidiary of W & J Sloan of New York. Table was made between 1926-1939. Some wear and light surface scratches to the finish consistent with use and age. The "wedge" that holds the birdcage onto the base is broken and part of it is missing. This is shown in 1 of the photos. This slides into a slot in the post locking the 2 parts together. It works fine as it is.
