A fine pair of modernist sterling silver candlesticks. Handmade by the renowned silversmith Kurt Matzdorf. The surface of the silver shows a varied texture almost like a variegation. It's quite possibly Matzdorf smelted the silver alloy and made the sterling sheets for these candlesticks himself. Matzdorf famously founded the Metals Program at SUNY New Paltz in the late 1950's. He taught there for several decades. From a Hudson, New York collection. Simply a wonderful example of his groundbreaking work!
