Word is, these beds were dowries for Chinese brides-to-be. They can be crazy ornate and completely closed in like a little wooden room in any room, some even had an anteroom. The more crazy ornate, the richer the family. The symbols are all of fortune, happiness and well-being. I never put the two solid wood pieces on top as it just cleared the dip of my slanted ceilings. I have a queen mattress in it with about 5-6 inches leftover. It is a puzzle with about 13 or 14 pieces that fit together with nary a screw or bolt! It measures roughly 98” tall, 98” wide and about 70” deep. It’s a beautiful beasty.
