Regency Rosewood Antique Circular Center Table, English Circa 1825

Chairish

$17,500

REGENCY ROSEWOOD CIRCULAR CENTER TABLE England, probably London circa 1825 28 5/8" H x 48" diameter A remarkably striking circular center table of the Regency period, it features some of the most beautifully figured rosewood veneers throughout the design, each carefully selected and applied to emphasize a dramatic visual affect in the grain. It is an incredibly respectful stewardship of this now essentially extinct wood. The circular top is framed by a solid rosewood applied edge. The top is supported by a tapering hexagonal central column rising from a tripodal base lifted on solid rosewood bun feet. The table retains its original brass tilting mechanism beneath the top, operated by a substantial hooped clasp that allows the surface to rotate and tilt vertically. This enabled the table to be placed against a wall when not in use, conserving space while presenting the top as an object of display. The underside construction, visible when tilted, demonstrates careful workmanship and thoughtful engineering consistent with the best English cabinetmaking of the period. Condition: Very good overall condition. Rubbing and scuffing to the early polished surface throughout. Some mild speckling to the finish of the column base. Shrinkage cracks in the round edge around the table top. Various cracks and fillings in the tripodal base where stress has necessitated some repair and inpainting (a few stray old nails, etc.). Original brass tilting hardware intact and functioning well. Table is sturdy, strong and incredibly attractive - ready to place. ref. 509WUY12D
