Rare sculptural center table by Sirmos, showcasing the company’s iconic stylized goat-leg form associated with their dramatic Italian Neoclassical and Hollywood Regency designs of the 1970s. The three-legged base is executed in sculpted cast plaster/composition material, a medium for which Sirmos became especially known, allowing for highly detailed organic forms and refined sculptural silhouettes. The elegantly curved animal-form legs support a circular top featuring a rare faux tortoise finish, accented by a contrasting black banded edge. Sirmos design work was produced largely for the trade and high-end design market, and many of their more unusual forms are increasingly difficult to source. This particular example combines several of the company’s most desirable characteristics — sculptural composition construction, neoclassical animal-leg styling, and an exceptional faux tortoise surface — making it an especially striking and hard-to-find piece within the Sirmos body of work.
