Black Tomatoe Decorative Center Piece Vessel

Announcing Tomato, a limited-edition design work by: Héctor Esrawe, Emiliano Godoy, and Brian Thoreen for Vissio. Each Tomato is individually blown by a team of Nouvel Studio artisans so that no two are ever exactly alike. The four-person team required to make the Tomatoes begins by blowing a large bubble with molten glass. The bubble is placed on the floor and a three-person crew presses a large scaffold-like mold onto the malleable, still-hot glass. The bubble is then lifted off the floor to be fire-polished and cooled in the ovens for several hours. The indentations and bulges caused by the mold are always unique depending on the heat of the glass or the pattern of pressure of the mold on the glass. Tomatoes are an expression of the elegance and endless variation that can be provoked by a simple process. Tomato pieces are available in black and opal. They are limited to a production of 20 plus two studio proofs.
