A family heirloom, this lovely late 1800's Chippendale mahongany chair has been handed down for 4 generations. Acquired in the early-to-mid 1900's in the upper Midwest or East Coast by the family's antique collecting matriarch, it now can be yours to start your own family tradition. A fun bit of provenance -- this chair was submitted to "Antiques Roadshow" for early consideration; as this process is reserved for very large pieces which have to professionally moved, the show chose not to preview the piece but strongly encouraged the owner to bring it in on the public review day. Well-known Sotheby's appraiser, Leslie Keno, examined the piece and determined that it was a late 19th C. example in the Chippendale style.featuring the classic ball and claw feet, carved knees, shell carved skirt, interlocking designed backsplat, and period appropriate handmade needlepoint seat. In excellent structural condition, the chair is both functional and beautiful. Age appropriate finish wear with minor scuffs. Overall, a fine antique piece with genuine patina.
