Swiss Black Forest hand carved Oak Side Chair with standing Lion, around 1880 The backrest is made in hand carved open work holding a beautifully standing lion in the center This hand carving was obviously done by a master craftsman, the backrest with the lion is very uniquely carved in one piece of solid oak wood which has a beautiful grain The base is in the alpine style with bobbin turned splayed legs The chair is made in 2 pieces which perfectly fits together to make it a very stable chair Very good condition with wear consistent with age and use, nice aged patina The lion is a common charge in heraldry. It traditionally symbolises courage, bravery, nobility, royalty, strength, stateliness and valour Size: 110 cm H, seatheight 48.5 cm. Seat is 47 cm wide and 42 cm deep. The legs stands out 48.5 cm
