A wooden chair from Belgium, circa 1800. An upright shape with a striking open-framed backrest and a square paneled seat upon turned legs. The dark, softly polished wood has weathered into a patina with areas of highlight and shadow. The form of the backrest creates a window-like effect, bordered top and bottom by curving scrolls. With a Flemish sensibility, a painterly simplicity: domestic, calm, yet with a singular and intriguing aperture.
