Gorgeous, Solid Oak Captain's Chair or also known as a Firehouse Chair, featuring a metal support rod from the armrest through the seat. Produced in the late 19th to early 20th century, approx 1895-1910. At one point it looks to have been damaged and repaired correctly as it is sturdy. Made of solid oak construction with a welled seat and bentwood backrest supported by hand turned decorative spindles. Although the chair does not have a maker's mark, it is attributed to the Allen Chair Company in Massachusetts, a noted maker of these chairs with a single iron rod under each armrest.
